Background

Volvo’s new Asia headquarter was designed in 2011 by the architect firm Wingårdhs with local architect Tongjie. Move in took place 2019. Volvos own way of activity based working, called Day @ Work was to also be implemented in its headquarter.

Challenge

With a Chinese owner and a new network of factories and R&D centre in China, Volvo Cars was in the need of a headquarter in China. The building had to reflect the values of the Volvo brand and be strongly rooted in its Scandinavian heritage while catering for Chinese needs and views on architecture and interior design.
